FAQs

How do I check out materials?

In order to check out materials, you must be registered in our system. If you are a student, bring your student ID with you. If you are not in our library system, we will add you. If you do not have a student ID, yet, bring a picture ID with current address and we will add you.

Can I renew materials?

Yes. Call or email the library in order to renew your materials.

How do I return Library materials?

Materials may be returned inside, when the Library is open or in the outside book drop 24/7. The book drop is located behind the library in the Curie parking lot. It is the same parking lot used for Owens Auditorium.

Can I request or place holds on materials that are not available in the Boyd Library?

Yes, Boyd Library belongs to the Community College Libraries In North Carolina (CCLINC) consortium and holds can be placed directly from the library catalog. You can search all participating North Carolina community colleges by browsing the library catalog and entering your library card barcode (no password required) by clicking the Place Hold icon in the search result. If the item you are seeking is not found in the library catalog, please ask a library staff member for assistance. There are other options available in such cases.

Will I be fined for any materials that are late?

Yes the fine for reserves and DVDs is $1.00 per day and all other checkouts are .20 cents per day.  

Do you have textbooks for Sandhills classes?

Typically, we do not purchase or add current “in use” textbooks. Occasionally we may have a book that an instructor uses for class. Sometimes instructors do put their own copies of textbooks on reserve in the library.

Can I access other Library resources when the Library is closed?

Yes. Students, Faculty, and Staff can access our online databases 24/7. These resources are linked from the “Find Articles and More” on the library’s home page (left side) Keep in mind you must be a registered student or current faculty/staff to access these resources virtually.

What if I need help?

Librarians and other staff are available to help via telephone, email, and chat. You may also schedule an appointment with one of the Librarians to assist you.  Contact information is available on the Library Staff page of this guide.

Are there any other services?

The Boyd Library/LRC has Wi-Fi capability in the facility.  WI-FI can also be accessed from other access points campus-wide.  Although WI-FI is available, the SCC campus is not equipped for wireless printing.  Please visit the Learning Resources Computer Lab for assistance.  For those in need of notary services, there are two staff members that hold this credential. Please call ahead and bring your unsigned documents and state issued ID card or Driver's license to verify your identity.
